Biography

 

Wolfgang Fichtner received the Dipl. Ing. degree in physics and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, in 1974 and 1978, respectively. From 1979 through 1985, he worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ. Since 1985 he is Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and head of the Integrated Systems Laboratory (ETH) Zurich. From October 1999 to October 2004, he acted as Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department at ETH.

In 1993, he founded ISE Integrated Systems Engineering AG, a company in the field of Technology CAD. Between November 2004 and October 2007, he was on leave from ETH, working at Synopsys Inc, Mountain View, CA, initially as Vice President and General Manager of the TCAD Business Unit and later as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Silicon Engineering Group.

Wolfgang Fichtner is a Fellow of the IEEE, a member of the Swiss National Academy of Engineering and a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 2000, he was the first recipient of the IEEE Andrew S. Grove Award for his contributions to Technology CAD.
